Education, Training

Ahmed Tahseen, M.D., completed his Bachelor of Arts in Molecular Cellular Developmental Biology at the University of Colorado, Boulder, with a minor in Neuroscience and a concentration in Virology. He later earned his Doctor of Medicine at Creighton University School of Medicine. Following this, he entered a categorical Dermatology Residency Program at the University of Utah, School of Medicine, later transferring into Psychiatry at Yale University.

At Yale University, he completed a Residency in Psychiatry through the Neuroscience Research Training Program where he aided in the conduct of clinical trials for psilocybin-assisted therapy for obsessive-compulsive and major depressive disorders. While there, he was a recipient of the Thomas P. Detre Fellowship Award in Translational Neuroscience Research in Psychiatry. His training included work with graduate students at Yale University, severe and treatment-resistant psychosis and bipolar disorder at the DMHAS Connecticut Mental Health Center, Consult-Liaison Service and Crisis Intervention Unit at Yale New Haven Hospital, Clinical Research Unit at Connecticut Mental Health Center, and geriatric psychiatry and substance abuse treatment programs at the West Haven VA Medical Center.

He continued his postgraduate education through the California Institute of Integral Studies and the Boston Psychedelic Research Group, receiving a Certification in Psychedelic Therapies and Research. He completed further training with the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS), receiving certification in MDMA-Assisted Psychotherapy.

He expanded his training through two Internal Family Systems Institute programs: Level 1 training and the Intimacy From the Inside Out (Couples Therapy) training.

Professional Experience

At Biohaven Therapeutics, he began as a Resident Intern and has advanced to the position of Medical Director in Research and Clinical Development, where he has been for over three years leading neuropsychiatric research programs.

He serves as a Clinical Instructor of Psychiatry at Yale University, where he participates on the Interviewing Committee and has taught courses in the History of Psychedelics (Department of Psychiatry), Trauma-Informed Architecture (School of Architecture), and Somatoform Disorders (Physician Associate Department).

As a Scientific Advisor for Freedom Biosciences, he led the development of scientific rationales for next-generation psychedelic compounds. He also acts as a Clinical Advisor for Radial Health and serves on the Review Committee for the Source Research Foundation.

He participated in the MAPS/Lykos Therapeutics Phase 3 MDMA-assisted psychotherapy studies in PTSD, supervising protocol and adherence ratings.

He practiced for several years as a Per Diem Psychiatrist at Silver Hill Psychiatric Hospital. He worked with the New Haven Crisis Center Planning Committee, securing support for mental health infrastructure within the city while there.

His academic and research journey includes time at the University of California, San Francisco, as an NIDDK Research Fellow in the Sean Parker Autoimmune Laboratory, and earlier work as a Research Associate at the Barbara Davis Diabetes Center within the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.
